Healthy Baby Sleep Tips Webinar w/ Giveaway!

2015/08 By Lauren B. Stevens 27 Comments

I’m so excited to be offering this amazing opportunity to 25 of my readers! My very own “Sleep Goddess,” Jennifer Schindele, Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant and owner of Gift of Sleep Consulting is offering lo-wren readers a free Sleep Tips webinar. If you’re struggling to establish a healthy sleep routine for your baby (or toddler), this webinar is for you.

GOSC

Jennifer Schindele is the go-to Pediatric Sleep Consultant for Philadelphia’s Main Line parents, recognized by Main Line Parent Magazine, consulting for several Care.com articles, and teaching sleep workshops across the region (if you’re in the area, check out her Facebook event listing, as she teaches several classes each month).

You can read about our sleep experience in my one year check in post: A Year of Sleep. At 3 years old, D still sleeps like a champ, with a two-hour nap mid-day (I don’t want that nap to EVER go away!).

Establishing healthy sleep habits when D was 9 months old allowed both of us to get the sleep we needed and created an excellent sleep routine for D to take with him through toddlerhood and beyond. That’s not to say that we’ve been without bumps and bobbles, as each milestone presented a sleep challenge, but for the most part, my little guy sleeps when he’s meant to sleep — no battles, no crying, just lots of Zzzzzs. Working with Jennifer meant that when sleep challenges did (and do) present themselves, I was able to calmly readjust (instead of panicking). I’m incredibly excited that Jennifer is offering this [free] opportunity for my readers to gather some healthy sleep tips and ask her their sleep questions!

Jennifer’s blog offers a wealth of advice, so if you’re unable to attend the webinar, I highly recommend checking out some of her most popular posts:

Jennifer, how can I get my 8 month old to sleep thru the night and in his own bed/ bassinet? Right now he sleeps in our bed and since he is exclusively breastfed (refuses to take bottles and has solids twice during the day), he still wakes up to feed during the night. He also still needs to be swaddled. What can I do to get him on the right sleeping path?

How can I get my 8 month old to nap and sleep in his crib, rather than my arms. He always wakes up when being set down.

We have two separate issues with which we struggle. First, our children (14mo and almost 4yo) share a room and have for 10mo. Thus far the only way to get them to sleep at a reasonable time is to make sure the little one is ASLEEP first, then sneak in the big one. Is there any other option? If they’re both awake they just goof off and play until 10pm and then the baby is overtired and screams. Thankfully they love each other and get along 🙂

Our second issue is that our older child comes to our bed, half sleepwalking, every night usually between 2am and 6am. If asked in the morning, he usually doesn’t remember coming to our bed. He goes right back to sleep (if he was even awake at all!) and tries to be unobtrusive but it’s still disruptive to my rest. He does not object if we carry him back to bed (sometimes he comes back an hour or two later, sometimes he stays in bed until 7:30). We had some success with a sticker chart/prize system but a few weeks after he achieved the two week goal he went back to his old way. Any other ideas?

The little one typically sleeps for 8hrs, then wakes to nurse and goes right back to her crib for another 4hrs. She has had periods of sleeping through the night without that feeding, but when my husband tries to go soothe her back to sleep she screams at him. I’ll just chalk that all up to being developmentally normal 🙂

    thanks for your help!

Our almost 13-month-old is what I call a flip-flop sleeper. Some days, she falls naps at 2 pm for an hour, sleeps at 10 pm and wakes at 11 am. Other days she refuses to sleep at all, staying up until 4 am and then rolling around in the floor the next day, drowsy and sucking her thumb, but refusing to nap.

Her schedule seems to be one or the other without any in-between. Disruption in our daily routine (visitors, leaving the house for errands or appointments, diet) doesn’t seem to be any indication of when her “no-sleep” days will be.

What is going on with my child? I’m due again in October and if I don’t figure this out before then, I think I can probably kiss any chance at sleep goodbye for the next two years.

My babe is a year and a half and lately won’t fall asleep for maybe an hour after being placed in his crib even when he is undeniably tired. Is this normal? is it ok to leave him alone until he falls asleep? On top of that he is still self soothing by sucking on his fingers. Should I leave that behavior alone or should I address it?

Jennifer, what is the best way to break a 29 month old from sleeping in the bed with you? I have tried everything I can between night lights and even letting her fall asleep in our bed first then move her. Also, what is the best wind down method to get her ready for bed?

    Hi Jennifer,
My 6 month old will only sleep if I am in the room with her, I have tried playing music and leaving the tv on. Help! How do I get her to stay asleep when I leave out of the room?

I have a 3 year old who still will not sleep in his room & a baby on the way. What can I do to get him to sleep in his own room? It’s mostly he wants to sleep with mommy & daddy…. Not his own bed.

I have a 7 week old that I have a hard time getting to sleep for the night. I have established a bedtime routine which works along with her older sibling’s bedtime but she can fall asleep anytime between 6:30 and 11:00. The problem is she will act like she is tired and keep falling asleep but will wake up 5-10 minutes later and cry. Once she is finally asleep for the night she is going 4-5 hours between feedings which is great but only if she is in her carseat. If I try to put her in crib next to bed or even if lying next to me she is quite restless.

Thanks for sharing the link for Help your Newborn sleep longer – I will be using some of those pointers.

LOL – I forgot to include the question: Do you have any advice on how to get her down by a certain or is it too early to establish a set time? Also, should I be concerned that she only sleeps well in a inclined position?

My 7 month old is not a very good sleeper. I’m wondering if this has anything to do with him being breastfed? My older two sons were formula fed after the first few months and slept great. I still plan to continue breastfeeding either way, just wondered if that was a possibility!
