While I’ve been blogging in some fashion, be it for work or a personal blog, for years, I didn’t start blogging here at The Median Mommy until February 2013. It’s been an amazingly educational year, I’ve connected with a lot of amazing moms and brands, and I’ve gone through some of my most difficult moments with an amazing outlet in which to share. I am so incredibly thankful for my readers, and can’t wait to tweak things a bit and continue blogging about fun parenting things, lifey things, and most of all, important things too!
Without further adieu, my 8 most popular posts of 2013, in descending order:
8. The BIG Picture? Breastfeeding Doesn’t SUCK! (part 1)
Breastfeeding definitely doesn’t ‘suck’, but I do because I’ve not had the chance to write part two. I’ll get there at some point, my breastfeeding journey is still going strong at 18 months…and counting. See, I’ve already got a post topic ready to go!
7. Coming Out of the Fog: PPD After Miscarriage
Not much to say about this one. It was a rough year, but I wanted other women to find comfort in knowing that they were not alone in their darkest moments.
6. A D&E, a Round of Misoprostol, and a D&C…All In Less Than Two Weeks’ Time
Truly one of my most traumatic experiences, but writing about it helped me to work through it. While I am in an almost nonexistent percentage for this to happen, I hope that other women with the misfortune to have this type of experience are able to find comfort knowing they’re not alone.
5. D.I.Y. Fleece Liners…for $.97?
Cloth diapers anything is a hit on my blog, but this one keeps making rounds on Pinterest. I’m going to be taking my cloth diapers + DIY up-a-notch soon, as I attempt to make my own bamboo soakers to pad my newly-heavy-wetting son’s AIO diapers.
4. Dealing with a Missed Miscarriage
By being open about my miscarriages, I’ve had so many women reach out to me with their own stories. At a time when I felt so sad and alone, the outpouring of women opened my eyes to just how common miscarriage is. What saddens me most, however, is how many women keep their experience to themselves, creating isolation in a time when comfort is needed to heal.
Cloth diapers are a hot topic on the blog, for sure! I felt like a complete minority in the cloth diapering world, having ditched my pocket diapers in the first month and going all-in with my prefolds. I used prefolds exclusively for the first 9 months of D’s life, and then I began adding some fitteds for nighttime. It’s fun to look back at this because when D was 12-14 months old, we gradually converted to AIOs and AI2s. Again, another topic for discussion, because our cloth diapering journey has been an evolution of sorts, with different diapers working well for different ages/stages.
2. Window Shopping: Creating My Ideal Cloth Diaper Stash
There’s nothing gung-ho cloth diaperers like to do more than daydream about…more fluff! When the ladies from Padded Tush Stats issued this topic challenge, I was excited to go window shopping. I wrote this around the time we were changing over to AIOs and AI2s, and I’m proud to say that I still stand by it. If, and when, I am blessed with another baby, I plan to add flats to my prefolds for the first six months.
1. All Prefolds Are NOT Created Equal
It’s fitting that my prefold comparison post is my most viewed post of 2013. I spent a lot of time drafting this post and am happy that it’s been helpful for others. I love prefolds and think they’re the perfect fit for someone who wants to cloth diaper without a.) making a huge investment, b.) having to fuss about a laundry routine, and c.) wants low-maintenance cloth diapering.
While I did not include any review posts in my roundup, I do want to include and honorable mention post that consistently receives hits. This post happens to be a review from a brand I’ve really enjoyed working with throughout the year, with products I absolutely stand behind:
Soap Nuts? That’s Nuts! NaturOli Soap Nuts
2013 was a year full of bumps and stumbles, and I look forward to even more fun in 2014 (it was weird to type that). I already have some great products lined-up to review for you (Ella’s Kitchen, Recaro Performance Ride, Clek Foonf), I’m working on some series (#NurtureMe, WAHM Features), and I have lot’s more in store. Come along with me…
